I have played a few of the Call of Duty games in the past. They weren’t bad, that is until you played them online. The problem I have with the COD games online is that you get more rewards for how much you play as opposed to how well you play. That’s just stupid. I have a job, so I don’t have the kind of time to play the game all day like all of the 12-16 year olds you come across. Since they get to play all day, they have better weapons and equipment. That means that no matter how well I play, they still have the advantage over me and I get killed when they should be the one dying.
Now they have that double XP code that you get for buying Mountain Dew or Doritos. Basically, they’re giving people who drink Mountain Dew or eat Doritos better weapons and equipment, when those things should be earned by playing well in the game. What a bunch of crap. When it comes to Multiplayer First Person Shooters, video games peaked with Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow. Everyone had the same weapons, same equipment. How well you did in the game was based on how well you played, not on how much you played or which products you bought.
I know this is an old old old post of yours, but since I stumbled across your video games section, I’m pretty much going to peruse the whole damned section.
To the topic at hand. Yes. You are absolutely correct in your time>skill assessment of COD games. But it is not the only one. Personally, I blame Halo. That’s where it started in my opinion. Tired of being blasted to hell and back by kids that have nothing but hours upon hours to play during the summer. Hell even during the school years. Mostly because I am deployed overseas and don’t get to log too much online time, it doesn’t matter what time of year.
There is a redeeming factor in this mix though. Battlefield 3! This game does in fact reward skill over play time. Granted you get accolades for simply finishing a round of gameplay, but that is only worth a meager 200 points. Whereas the ones putting in work, and getting down and dirty on the server, consistently make 5-7k points per round. And there are no double xp weekends, or special unlocks to get weapons sooner. You unlock weapons as you play more with certain classes, and also advance in overall individual level. That sir, is the game you should be entertaining!
Let me know if you have xbox live, and if you want to get down and dirty on some chumps.
I’ll have to check it out when I finally get some extra money. Funds are kind of tight right now, so I don’t see myself being able to buy a new game anytime soon.
There is regrettably little in this section to peruse. I can’t speak for Revis, but since my child was born little over a year ago I have not had the funds nor the time to play. I bought DragonAge2 last year have only logged roughly 4 hours of play time on it. With Mass Effect 3 coming out soon, I’m going to try to find some way to play it. I love me some Mass Effect.
