He was the coolest villain in the Star Wars universe.  He had bad-ass black and red tattoos covering his entire body.  He had horns sticking out from the top of his skull, which would make a headbutt from him lethal.  He was the first force-user we had ever seen to wield a dual lightsaber.  And he did so spectacularly.  He leaped around and fought with a grace that will likely never be duplicated.  And then, to the dismay of fanboys everywhere, he was sliced in half and fell into a bottomless abyss, thus making him the most irrelevant villain in the Star Wars universe.

Surely he died, right?  Right?  Of course he did.  And stop calling me Shirley.

But wait!!  He’s back.

That’s right.  You didn’t think being sliced in half at the waist and falling from umpteen stories high could kill the coolest Sith ever, did you?  Well, truthfully, I did.

LucasFilm has yet to announce a story for Maul’s survival, so I guess you have to watch the show to find out.  It’s probably going to be something so ridiculously stupid that it’s not even possible nor sensical.

Personally, as much as I like Star Wars and Darth Maul, this is somewhat asinine.  There is no way Maul could have lived through what happened to him.  See for yourself:

As you can see, he falls an awfully long way.  And in two different pieces.  Sure, he could survive that.

This is not the first time they have brought back somebody that died, either. In Return of the Jedi, Boba Fett dies, lamely, by having his jet pack accidentally activated. He slams into the side of a sail barge and then plummets into the desert and rolls into the sarlacc pit where he is to be slowly digested for over 1,000 years. Or so we thought.

He was brought back to life in the Star Wars books and comics. Boba Fett apparently escaped the sarlacc’s clutches by simply. . .climbing back out. Gee, why didn’t anyone else think of that? Obviously, it’s not supposed to be possible or everyone would do it.

By the same token, it’s not supposed to be possible to live after being cut into two pieces and plunging into depths unknown. Even if by some miracle Maul survived the fall, he was still severed at the waist. Sure, you could attach the two pieces of his body back together, but he would be paralyzed.

Ugh, I’m getting on a tangent. If you’re interested, below is a preview of the episode in which Maul returns.
