I had a doctor appointment today, so I took the day off. I felt like I should post something on my unexpected day off, but nothing was coming to me. I tried to think of a post that wasn’t one of the stories that I’m working on. I got nothing. Then, I felt something on my leg. Looking down, I saw that Baby E was pulling herself up on it. She sees me looking down at her and a huge grin pops onto her face, revealing her first two teeth that have finally poked through. Now I have my post.
Baby E is 10 months old. While she hasn’t had all of her firsts yet, she’s getting close. She hasn’t walked yet, but she can do it when she’s holding onto something, such as furniture and people’s hands. She doesn’t say words yet, but she “talks” quite a bit. She doesn’t read yet, but she certainly likes trying to tear her books apart.

At the bottom of each of my posts is a short list of some of the things that I’ve been called over the years. There are actually a lot more, but for the sake of time and space, I only put four of them down. I guess I don’t have to explain any of them, but I will talk a little bit about the last one: a bad influence.
I’ve been told by a few people that I’ve had some kind of influence on their lives. My wife, for instance, will come home from work and tell me about a smartass or sarcastic comment that she had made that day (which she wouldn’t normally make), and have to explain it off as, “I’ve been around my husband too long.” I tend to find these stories highly amusing because the responses are usually something I would say. She doesn’t consider this to be a “bad” influence, although maybe other people would. Overall, I may not be the best person in the world, but I don’t think I make the people around me worse.

Today the Daily Prompt probes deep within the recesses of my person to unearth some obscure information about my Unshitty™ self for Maphia™ consumption. Seriously, what would you guys know about me if not for these prompts? Not much, I’d wager.

It’s been 12 days since Baby C’s accident. Since that time his burns have healed up quite nicely and all he has left are three red marks (two on his chest and one on his arm) from his burns.
Baby C Trooper. healing like a boss!
So tonight when I was undressing him for his bath he pointed at one of the red marks and said, “Boo boo?”
“Yes, that’s a boo boo,” I concurred (like a doctor). Continue reading »

Well, let’s face it, I have gray hair because I lost the genetic lottery. But a lot of these gray hairs are earned. I’ve been raising children for the past 16 years and with a two-year old I have at least another 16 to go. I might be bald soon.
So let me elaborate on why I’m getting these gray hairs. Here’s an example that just happened a few minutes ago. Baby A came downstairs after just having taken a shower. He has on a pair of sweatpants to sleep in. Sweatpants with pockets. I could hear change rattling in said pockets as he came down the stairs. Then, the following conversation ensued. Having a child changes a lot of things. One of them is how you speak. For most people, it lessens the frequency of cussing (it did for me, at least when Baby E is around anyways). It also makes you start talking in a way you can’t control. I don’t know how else to explain it, but for some reason, you MUST talk to your child in that annoying baby talk. You try not to do it, but, no matter what, you always find yourself doing this:

I haven’t done a Daily Prompt post for a few days for a couple of reasons. For starters, I haven’t been overly inspired by them. I’ve also had other things to write. I also am collaborating with another blogger on a fictional piece in addition to writing a guest post for another blog. So I’ve saved those ideas for rainy days. In other words, when I’m completely devoid of any writing topics one day I’ll fall back to that list of ideas.
Today’s prompt is to make a list, any list, about whatever we chose. Lists seem to be all the rage these days, with a plethora of bloggers making Top 10 lists à la David Letterman. Some are very funny. Others are just lists.
I’ve debated with myself for the last few minutes on what topic I should choose to make a list about and I’ve finally agreed with myself on a topic. So, with all that nonsense settled, let’s move on to the prompt, shall we? What? I don’t care if you’re ready or not! This is my post and we’ll move on when I’m ready! I was absent from the virtual world for most of yesterday. Most of you probably didn’t notice. Those of you who did are online too much. Seriously, get out and take a walk or something. Yes, that statement is directed at me, too. I spend entirely too much time online.
I spend most of my time online at work, where chattering back and forth on Twitter and through WP comments keeps me sane throughout the day. Yesterday was not one of those days even though I was supposed to be at work.
I was at work, actually, for all of 30 minutes. Then my phone rang. I could hear the unmistakable sound of Baby C crying in the background before I could even say hello. It was my mother, who now watches Baby C while I’m at work. Continue reading »
