Joining the WordPress community is one of the best things I’ve ever done.  What started out as a project turned into a creative outlet which then turned into an entire community of supportive people who have traveled similar paths to my own and have offered their support and advice.  Most importantly, they’ve offered their ears and let me rant and rave about what ails me and my psyche.  For that, I am eternally grateful.

Before last October, I didn’t really share much of myself on my blog.  I wrote fiction, some poetry, and ranted a lot about whatever was pissing me off in the news.  When my shit hit the fan a community of bloggers showed up to offer me encouragement and share their stories.  It was both very unexpected and extremely welcome.  I was shocked to find such a supportive community conjure itself up from nowhere.

Having a child changes a lot of things. One of them is how you speak. For most people, it lessens the frequency of cussing (it did for me, at least when Baby E is around anyways). It also makes you start talking in a way you can’t control. I don’t know how else to explain it, but for some reason, you MUST talk to your child in that annoying baby talk. You try not to do it, but, no matter what, you always find yourself doing this:

I was nominated for an award way, way back on April 7, by my favorite Aussie blogger Steph, of She Said What? fame(don’t let the fact that she’s the only Aussie blogger I know detract from the compliment) and by my favorite jester (don’t let the fact that he’s the only jester blogger I know detract from the compliment) DJ Matticus of The Matticus Kingdom fame on April 6 for some new blog bling.

It’s new, to me anyhow, in a couple of different ways.  For starters, it’s one I haven’t received before.  For finishers, it’s one I’ve never heard of before.  So it was a unique experience all the way around.  Hooray for new things!

The award, because I’m sure you all are aquiver with anticipation, is the Most Influential Blogger Award.  I had actually purposefully put off accepting this award because right before I was nominated by Steph and DJ I had published a post addressing this very topic and didn’t want to appear like a broken bloggy record.  Oh, here is the bling, by the way.

Another headache greeted me when I woke up. I’m starting to loathe the person who invented stun blasts (Granted, they’re not the one who pulled the trigger, but if they didn’t invent the thing, I wouldn’t have been stunned in the first place. Then again, if they didn’t invent them, someone else probably would have and the only thing that would change is who I loathe. Great. I’m starting to ramble again. This happens every time I get hit with a stun blast. I’m starting to loathe the person who invented stun blasts. Granted, they’re not the one who pulled the trigger….Wait…Blast it!).

I was in my quarters. Nalith had pulled a chair up next to my bed and was lounging, waiting for me to awaken. He hadn’t seen my eyes open yet. I could make a move for his blaster.

Once again, I found myself in my ship with a gun pointed at me. I looked over at Envy and asked, “Why is it that every time I open my ramp now, there’s some psychopath waiting there with a gun?”

When I woke back up, my jaw was hurting. Envy was sitting there shaking his head at me. “How did you possibly think that you’d get away with that,” he queried. “He was standing right next to you, you idiot.”

“Shut up.”

“By the way, the Trandoshan urinated on the ship a couple of times while you were knocked out.”

Way, way, waaaaay back (nope, keep going – ack!  too far!) on March 6th Steph Rogers nominated my unshittiness™ for an award.  Being the excellent and masterful procrastinater that I am, I’m just now getting to it.  I may even publish it…eventually.

Steph is fucking awesome.  She’s smart and a very talented writer.  As such, she’s certainly qualified to recognize this blog for its unshittiness™ and award it with an epic award.  No, it really is an epic award.  See for yourself…

They say that when your child is young, you should call yourself what they’re going to call you. Therefore, instead of “I”, I’ve been calling myself “Daddy”. Sometimes when I leave the room, she will start to cry. To try to calm her down, I’ll say things like, “Daddy, will be right back. He’s got to make you a bottle.” or “Sorry, baby girl, but Daddy has to go to the bathroom.”

My mother watches Baby E for a few hours each day while my wife and I are at work. When I got to her house tonight, she had a story for me.

Sometime during Baby E’s stay, Twindaddy sent Baby B over to Mom’s house to get something. While he was there, Baby B went to the bathroom, grabbed whatever it was he came for, and kissed Baby E before walking out the door. After he left, Baby E looked at the door, then turned to Mom, looked back at the door, and started bawling.

She was so sad he had left that she started crying.
