Even though the calendar told us it was spring a couple of weeks ago (well, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, anyhow), Mother Nature didn’t grace us with Spring-like weather until this past weekend.  I was able to open my windows and let the damp, cool breeze permeate my home and listen to the calming sound of raindrops gently striking the ground.  I was able to roll down my windows when I went to the store this weekend and it was warm enough to wear a pair of shorts and some flip-flops.  It felt good to be outside for a change.  It wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t too cold.  Like that third bowl of porridge, it was just right.

Winter’s Grace

Winter’s wonder graces all
Every time the snow does fall
Mother nature leaves her lair
Ejaculates snow everywhere

Crystalline white flakes fall gracefully like a feather
A lovely ivory blanket a result of this weather
Tree branches are snowy and covered with ice
Everywhere you look is frosty and nice

Through gloomy clouds sunlight does escape
Illuminating the alabaster landscape
The fresh-fallen snow sparkles and shines
While trees cast shadows in straight obsidian lines

This beautiful picture will not last
It will get played in and be a thing of the past
The children will play with delight
And have a huge snowball fight!

I again am recycling another old Christmas post, because, well, ’tis the season.  And such. 

As usual (how sad is it that I can just say usual when referring to regifted posts?), I have updated and modernized the post for your viewing pleasure.  You’re welcome.

Thoughts From the Throne

Hopefully it’s not necessary for me to explain that when its winter here in the states the bottom side of the world is in the midst of summer.  Which begs the question: what are the Christmas songs about?

Christmas favorites like Let it Snow, White Christmas, and Winter Wonderland would make no sense down there.  And what about Frosty?  That poor bastard wouldn’t stand a snowball’s….well, you know.

Santa wears a different suit when visiting Australia.

Does Santa still dress up in a red suite even though its hot and muggy out?  Does he still need a sleigh even though there’s no snow down there?  Do you leave out milk and cookies or a bottle of Gatorade?  Does he go down the chimney or in through the air conditioner?

Could you imagine going to the beach on Christmas!

Inquiring minds want to know.

RTotD: Where is winter?

The temperature here in the Cincinnati metro area this month has averaged in the mid-40′s.  For like three days last week it was really cold and we got about a half an inch of snow.  Then it went back to the 40′s and even lower 50′s.

This morning I drove through thunderstorms on my way to work.  There was thunder and lightning amid the torrential down-pour.  A tornado even touched down in Louisville this morning.

So what gives?  Where’s winter?  Where’s the snow?  Where’s the cold weather?  This warm winter better not be followed by an extremely hot summer or I’ll be pissed.
